(More customer reviews)The recent Hurricane here on the Gulf Coast brought along more than the usual number of overnight guests and, smart woman that I sometimes am, I quickly realized we needed a portable guest bed. DH suggested we find an old-fashioned roll-away, but a thorough internet search only reminded us of all the drawbacks-- huge size, spring-y uncomfortable base, and a folded mattress of questionable comfort. We happen to actually like our guests and wanted something both safe and non-slippy for elderly relatives and comfortable enough for evacuee's and other longterm company.

Hesitant to order anything without reading other user reviews and/or comments, we decided to consider this a hundred dollar experiement and donate it to one of the young adults in the family if it turned out to be particularly icky.

When the box arrived, my poor heart sunk-- such a tiny box meant a thousand pieces to assemble! Sure enough, the entire frame comes completely unassembled. Fortunately, the instructions are clear and very well written and once I sorted out the pieces, assembly took only 20 minutes with a rubber mallet and a cordless screwdriver(and I'm not particularly handy.) Each piece was smooth and beautifully crafted. Holes were in exactly the right location, in just the right size and the manufacturer thoughtfully included two extra wooden dowels and several extra wood screws. After years of assembling cheap crap, this was pure joy~

We couldn't be happier with this frame. It's well made, folds up into a compact unit that fits easily against the wall in our walk-in closet and could be slid under any bed. It's solid-- I'll never worry about putting an older adult or child on it-- and it sits the perfect distance from the floor.

For a mattress, we ordered an inexpensive 8" foam twin-sized bunk mattress which we're storing by stacking on top of another identical mattress on a daybed. When company comes, we'll seperate the two and pull out the frame. This could also be used as a stable base for an air mattress. The quality is high enough for everyday use and with a foam mattress, is extremely comfortable.
