Midwest Canine Camper Double Door Soft Sided Crate Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)We purchased this crate thru Amazon.com about 18 months ago and within 1 year, one of the rods supporting the top snapped and last weekend, a vertical support rod snapped, leaving me a need to figure out how to fix it or get a replacement as it sags quite a lot now.

If the rods were less fragile, then it was nearly perfect as it kept the hair contained (we have a 110 lb black lab) and it fit in the back of our Suburban quite nicely.Having him within a cage in the back of the truck made it much easier to control him while the hatch is open (packing or just fresh air) and allows us to pack bags around the cage (not so easy to do when there was a separator bar that he would just knock down.

No we cannot see out the back, but generally if the dog is with us, so is all our gear for a family of 5, so I cannot see out of the back anyway.

In our previous SUV, the hair seemed permanently attached to the roof liner without a cage, and now, there is never a hair outside the cage and we have a white truck with light interior.

It is heaver than I anticipated, but still easier to transport than the metal crate and easier on the interior of the truck and tent.

Tho I do miss being able to stack items on top of the cage when camping (when we brought the metal cage).

I "fixed" it by jamming two lengths of pvc pipe into the corners to support the roof and I have had no complaints since.

Midwest Life Stages Double-Door Folding Metal Dog Crate Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)If you have a medium sized doggie and are looking for a crate because you live in an apartment, this particular model is a good choice. Crate training is amazingly simple (just don't use it for punishment--make it a happy experience when your puppy go into his crate). We have been using this for two months, and he takes to it easily.

1. Easy to put together and fold away. Solid black e-coat steel wire, conjoined with small metal plates with welded corners facing out. It comes with a slightly smaller divider that you can hook to the insides of the crate. As our puppy got bigger, we moved the divider and eventually removed it.

2. The two doors (one on the long end is off-centered) are not removable and opens only one way so it's not omni-directional when you place it in tight spaces. You may want to check out some crates with three doors if so.

3. The bottom tray is made of black-composite plastic material, easy to wipe clean and slide out from under the short end of the door.

4. I like the double latch, but some people may find it a little more work to open and close day-to-day.

5. If you buy a crate cover, check out Cratewear Pet Dreams 3-Piece (which fits this model well, but only work with the door on the short end).

6. For this price, it's a good crate to highly consider because your goal is to have a sanctuary for your puppy (for time out and quiet-time) and to housebreak your dog and/or temperate from negative behavior (such as chewing furniture, etc.)

I hope this review is helpful for you.

Whether starting with a new puppy or starting again with an adult dog, this folding double-door metal dog crate cuts housebreaking time in half and reduces behavioral problems. The exceptionally versatile unit features a divider panel that allows for adjusting the length of the living area. Keeping the living space small enough reduces the chance of the puppy eliminating in one end and sleeping in the other. Choose the size of crate that the dog will need when it reaches its full adult size, as the divider can be adjusted as the puppy grows. For easy placement in an automobile or in the corner of a room, the dog crate also comes equipped with convenient double doors, which allow both side and front access. Other highlights include safe and secure slide-bolt latches, a durable satin-black electro-coat finish, 1-1/2-by-5-7/8-inch mesh, rounded corners, and two plastic handles for carrying. The unit easily sets up and folds down to a portable size for suitcase-style carrying, and an ABS-composite plastic pan for easy clean up comes included.
